Sand Cats & Pale Foxes Debut

After years of never being seen before in the exotic pet trade, pale foxes and sand cats are back. They are captive bred and have been imported into the US, supposedly, and can be purchased from Underground Reptiles, or someone who's breeding their own imported animals.

Pale Foxes (vulpes pallida) are famous in the pet fox community for having the best known temperaments out of all the species currently kept as pets: they're less flighty than fennecs and more inclined to cuddle, and are overall relaxed and placid for foxes. Their care needs are similar to fennecs but they are more omnivorous than other fox species, so keep that in mind when formulating a proper diet. They reportedly have very little odor and litter box train well; I'm happy to see them becoming a part of the private ownership sector once again.

Sand cats (felis margarita), on the other hand, have no info on their pet-quality. I have not seen anybody who's owned one as a pet due to their incredible rarity and hefty pricetag- around $10k for one kitten. I'd assume that like all wildcats, they spray urine everywhere and are prone to being moody, and are energetic yet shy. Due to their very small size, they are also fragile and need gentle handling and a well proportioned diet.

In the next few years, expect to see pale foxes and sand cats solidify their status in the exotic pet trade. This is a great success!
